Admittedly not much of a recipe, I just can’t resist dipping marshmallows into chocolate.
Whether dipped in crushed candy canes or 4th of July inspired sprinkles, I’m a sucker for fluffy white sugar on a stick,
My four year old and I made these yesterday to take to a neighbors house for a potluck bbq we went to last night.
They were a HUGE hit with the kids and the adults. Honestly, I could have made a bunch more and they all would have been eaten. Partly due to the fact that my 18 month old not only ate his but then followed other kids around waiting for them to slip up and set theirs down. He would swoop in like a trained marshmallow hunter and walk away before the poor kid knew what hit him.
That’s my boy alright……………..
If you need a last minute treat for your 4th of July festivities tonight, look no further. They are silly easy and you don’t have to turn the oven or stove on. Hooray!
Happy 4th to you and yours!
4th of July Chocolate Covered Marshmallows
- 1 bag regular sized marshmallows
- sucker sticks (about 30)
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening, divided
- red, blue, and silver sparkles
Line a large baking sheet with parchment or waxed paper; set aside. In a microwave safe bowl, heat milk chocolate chips on high for 45 seconds. Stir. Heat again in 15 second intervals, stirring, until chocolate is melted. Stir in one tablespoon of shortening. Repeat with white chocolate. Barely dip the tip of the sucker stick into chocolate and then insert it into bottom of marshmallow. Dip in chocolate, “spinning” the marshmallow to let excess chocolate drip off. Scatter sprinkles over marshmallow and place on waxed paper to let chocolate harden. You can speed the process by placing marshmallows in fridge or freezer.
